NY Hair Replacement

Women’s hair loss can be caused by numerous conditions.

Sometimes the reason for hair loss is easily established (as is the case of hair loss after pregnancy, hormonal changes, chemotherapy, medications, trauma, or auto-immune disease or disorder) and sometimes the cause is not easily seen.

Even stress can affect a woman’s hair and cause it to thin prematurely or be thrown in to the telogen (shedding) phase.

Depending on the cause of your hair loss, there may be different types of hair replacement available to you, with both surgical and non-surgical interventions.

Understanding Women’s Hair Loss

For women, thinning hair or hair loss of any kind can be complicated. It is often their calling card and is an important part of their self-esteem and well-being.

Many women (over 50%) have Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA). This is a female pattern of hair loss where they lose their hair or see thinning, in a non-specific pattern. They tend to thin all over including the back and sides of the scalp. Hair loss that thins throughout the scalp can be an indicator that the donor area is not stable. If this is the case, a hair transplant procedure would not be of benefit to them.

On the other hand, men’s hair loss is quite straightforward. Male pattern baldness generally means that they have lost their hair at the top and crown area of the scalp. They have the “monks” ring, that thick, full area of hair around the back and sides of the scalp. If they have this strong stable donor hair, this can indicate they are a good candidate for a surgical hair transplant as a form of hair restoration.

A woman with androgenetic alopecia may consider topical creams such as Minoxidil which can slow down but seldom reverses hair loss, or vitamins and supplements, which can help if the hair loss is caused by a deficiency in those nutrients, but are of little benefit in other cases.

Choices for Women’s Hair Replacement

Having eliminated transplants as not being suitable for most women, then the main alternatives they can consider are a wig or topper, or a hair system. It is hair replacement systems that we specialize in at Lucinda Ellery - based on patented technology and which are custom designed for each client and created in a single day.

The Intralace System™ is constructed on a breathable mesh, making it lighter and less damaging than traditional wigs or hair systems and allows for hair growth through the mesh.

Your existing hair is integrated into the system without the need to cut or shave your natural hair, strand by strand. This allows you to play sports, swim, wash, style and brush your hair as you normally would without the worry of how activities, wind, or rain might affect your hair.

The system can be designed to any hairstyle, cut or color you want by one of our board-certified cosmetologists.

No more panic when the wind blows or having to spend an extra hour each morning to “fix” your hair.
