When women get older, if we talk about menopause, we generally start off with discussing “hot flashes” and “night sweats”. But that is just the part of menopause that we talk about openly.

But the unspoken parts of menopause is the weight gain in the belly section and hair loss or crazy changes in hair texture.

Whether the hair thinning is due to hormones or telogen effluvium, experiencing hair loss during and after menopause can be devastating.

Theoretically, our brains understand the factors behind menopausal hair loss. It is caused by hormonal changes. The same as when our bodies face puberty, or childbirth. But in the peri and post-menopausal woman, there may be additional factors that can add to their hair thinning.

The stress of getting older, underlying health conditions, changes in the metabolism, additional medications and even nutritional and vitamin deficiencies, can all exacerbate hair loss.

The sort of transformation we can make for our lovely New York clients

One of the most disconcerting figures is that 80% of women experience hair loss by age 60.

The initial hair loss may be subtle. In addition to natural thinning, you may see more hair in your brush or shower drain. When this happens, we tend to start the never-ending journey of teasing, brushing, shaping, spraying, and cutting our hair. This is all in an effort to camouflage what we are seeing, or what we think we are seeing.

This can make you feel helpless or resigned to getting older. But that is not how it has to be.

Our founder, Lucinda Ellery’s, Intralace System® was built on the concept that all women deserve the head of hair they may only have dreamed of.

With our technique each hair is lifted strand by strand through the patented mesh system and using your own hair as the base, additional natural hair is then added, again, strand by strand.

Our NY hair artists are trained at our studios for at least a year before they graduate from Assistant to Lead Technician.

It is this kind of care and attention to detail that makes our system and our staff truly unique.

Understanding Your Hair Loss As We Age

Hormones

Apart from maintaining reproductive function, estrogen and progesterone levels may decrease. And both of these hormones promote hair growth, length, and density. When their levels decline your hair cycle and growth can be affected. Female pattern baldness can result from the disturbance of these levels.

Nutrition

Chances are, as women, we have spent a good portion of our lives caring about others. But as we age, we have to take better care of ourselves.

Poor nutrition can impact your overall health and your hair growth or loss. Biotin (B7), B1, B6, B12, Zinc, Vitamin D and iron deficiency can cause excessive hair loss and thinning.

Stress

It has been shown in countless journals that stress can directly and indirectly affect women’s hair loss. The additional stress of going through during menopause can also trigger telogen effluvium and throw the hair into the shedding phase of the cycle that all hair goes through.

The stress hormone (cortisol) can change your hair's growth, texture and quality, and anxiety or depression can also contribute to menopausal hair loss.

For some of us, eating healthy, staying hydrated, taking vitamin supplements, heatless styling, yoga and stress relief techniques may in fact help stave off menopausal thinning.

But for those of us where these types of activities are not successful, or if your thinning and hair loss becomes a source of the stress in your life, we do have an alternative.

Get That Hour A Day Back

One of the things all women who are experiencing thinning have in common is the hour every morning that we take to tease, pull back, clip, bobby pin, style, tease and spray our hair with all types of products. With a Lucinda Ellery system, we give you that hour a day back.

Our systems are designed to brush and go!

Minimal effort and minimal products are needed for your hair to appear luxe and ready. Let us show you how we can give you that hour a day back and take the fear away with the wind blows or the rain hits.

The Intralace® Difference

With the Intralace System the breathable mesh allows your hair to continue to grow. So if the hair loss is not permanent, you will be able to see the new growth when during your 6 month realignment appointment.

But most importantly, you can take charge of your hair. Design, styling, cut and color are all things you can control again and moreover, you can have the hair you always wanted, not just the hair you think you can have.
